LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Transport technology company Aurrigo International announced an agreement with the Digital Testbed Cargo Project Consortium (DTAC) on Friday to conduct autonomous cargo transport trials at Stuttgart Airport.
The AIM-traded firm said the trials would involve the deployment of Aurrigo's Auto-DollyTug, an autonomous vehicle designed for cargo handling.

Scheduled for deployment in March, the Auto-DollyTug would undergo testing at Stuttgart Airport for an initial four weeks.

That collaborative project was financially supported by the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) and was set to be executed under the academic leadership of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) and the Frankfurt University of Applied Science as part of the broader Digital Testbed Air Cargo initiative.

"We are absolutely delighted to win this first deployment in Germany and this is an endorsement of our strategy to concentrate on aviation, a sector where there is a clear demand for autonomous, electric vehicles to reduce emissions, improve efficiency and allow for continued growth in passenger volumes, despite a shortage of security cleared ground staff," said chief executive officer David Keene.

"We look forward to exploring additional opportunities to work with Stuttgart and DTAC following the initial trial period."

At 1023 GMT, shares in Aurrigo International were up 0.49% at 103p.
