China mulling major Airbus order - report

(Sharecast News) - China is mulling a possible order for potentially hundreds of Airbus planes, it was reported on Wednesday, sending shares in the European aircraft maker higher.
According to Bloomberg, citing unnamed officials familiar with the matter, the order could be for between 200 and 500 aircraft, and include both narrow and wide body models.
Negotiations are understood to be ongoing between Airbus and China's airlines, and there remained no guarantee a deal would be struck.
However, European leaders are due to visit Beijing next month, and Bloomberg noted that the deal could be sealed at the same time.
As at 1045 BST, shares in Airbus were 4% higher.
Airbus has been steadily increasing sales to China, one of the world's biggest aviation markets, including establishing a final assembly line in Tianjin.
US rival Boeing, however, has been hampered by Donald Trump's trade war with China.
In April, Beijing ordered airlines to stop taking deliveries of jets from Boeing, America's largest exporter, after Trump announced his global tariff regime and imposed soaring taxes on China.
Since then, a 90-day ceasefire has been signed by the countries, significantly lowering duties which had escalated on both sides. Boeing is also poised to restart deliveries next month.
But a long-term deal has still yet to be agreed by Washington and Beijing, and last week Trump accused China of backtracking on the ceasefire.
Neither Airbus nor the Civil Aviation Administration of China responded to the report.
