Iran and Israel halt fighting, Trump announces ceasefire and end of war

(Sharecast News) - Iran and Israel ceased attacks on each other overnight, but all eyes now were on whether the halt in fighting would hold.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had said that the two combating countries had agreed to a total and complete ceasefire that would give way to a peace.

Trump added that 12 hours after the ceasefire's start, what he termed the 'Twelve-day War' would be considered to be "officially over".

Trump later warned both sides on social media not to break the ceasefire.

For his part, Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, had announced that no such agreement existed but that if Tel Aviv halted its strikes by 0200 BST then "we have no intention of continuing with our response".

Tel Aviv had yet to make an official announcement, but had stopped its attacks by 0200 BST.

Araqchi later confirmed that military operations to "punish Israel" had creased, Spanish daily ABC reported.

As of 0720 BST, front-dated Brent crude oil futures were trading down by 2.73% to $68.75 a barrel on the ICE, taking the two-day drop to around 11%.

Euro/dollar meanwhile was edging up by 0.35% to 1.1618, leaving it just a whisker below its 52-week high of 1.1631.
