(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks were in the green early on Monday as traders hope to wrap up an impressive month for major indices with a bang.
As of 1520 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.33% at 43,965.77, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.26% to 6,188.87 and the Nasdaq Composite came out of the gate 0.25% firmer at 20,323.44.
The Dow opened 146.50 points higher on Monday, extending gains recorded in the previous session, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both looked set to build on Friday's record close.
Monday's primary focus will likely be whether or not the Senate can push through Donald Trump's "one, big, beautiful" bill after clearing a massive hurdle when it narrowly passed a key procedural vote on Saturday night.
Trump celebrated the late-night vote and took to social media to say he was "VERY PROUD OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TONIGHT".
A final Senate vote on the megabill was expected to take place on Monday, but Trump's BBB still faces an uncertain future in the House, with Republican lawmakers speaking out against revisions in the bill's latest version.
Democrats said they would force the 940-page bill to be read aloud once it heads to full debate, with Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer saying, "we will be here all night if that's what it takes".
Tech billionaire and one-time Trump confidant Elon Musk took aim at the Senate for passing the massive domestic policy package, calling it "utterly insane and destructive."
Elsewhere, Canada walked back its digital services tax "in anticipation" of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States - just one day before the first payments were due to be made. Canada's decision to halt the 3% charge on Canadian revenue above $20.0m comes after Trump said over the weekend that he would be "terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada".
Market participants were also awaiting the announcement of further trade deals, with Trump's 90-day tariff reprieve set to expire on 9 July. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that the White House was "negotiating in good faith" with a number of countries, but cautioned that if deals couldn't "get across the line because they are being recalcitrant", then tariffs would likely revert back to levels not seen since 2 April.
On the macro front, the Institute of Supply Management's Chicago purchasing managers index unexpectedly decreased to 40.40 points in June, down from 40.50 points in May and short expectations of an improvement to 43.0.
Still to come, June's Dallas Fed manufacturing business index will be published at 1530 BST.
In the corporate space, Hewlett Packard was up 14% in early trading after the Department of Justice settled its lawsuit challenging its $14.0bn acquisition of Juniper Networks, while Moderna was up roughly 2% on the back of news that the drugmaker's experimental flu vaccine showed a positive response in a late-stage trial.
