Nissan set to cut hundreds of jobs at Sunderland plant

(Sharecast News) - Japanese motor giant Nissan is expected to cut hundreds of jobs at its production plant in Sunderland as part of plans to cut its global headcount by 15%.
The company said it was aiming to make the 6,000-employee manufacturing plant a "leaner, more flexible" facility.

According to reports, Nissan is expected to axe around 250 jobs from the North East site.

"We will begin discussions with some of our employees at the Sunderland plant this week about voluntary retirement opportunities and support from the company," a Nissan spokesperson said.

The Sunderland plant is the largest car manufacturing facility in the UK, which build over 280,000 vehicles last year.
