(Sharecast News) - GreenRoc Strategic Materials confirmed the start of its 2025 field programme at the Amitsoq Graphite Project in southern Greenland on Friday, as it progressed towards securing an exploitation licence.
The AIM-traded firm said a 35-day public consultation period closed on 27 June, marking a key milestone in the permitting process.
It said the Greenland government had approved its fieldwork plans for the year, including the extraction of a 15 to 20 tonne underground bulk sample from the Lower Graphite Layer within the historical mine workings.
Local contractor HK Transport would carry out the work, which was expected to complete by late September or early October.
The sample would serve two purposes - to further inform the design of the ore processing flow sheet through analysis of ore characteristics and rock mechanics, and to provide raw material for use in the company's planned graphite anode materials pilot plant.
Further field activities included geological sampling in July at prospective graphite sites outside the Amitsoq licence area, and the continuation of baseline ecological studies in August by BioApp Aps.
The environmental studies form a core part of the project's environmental impact assessment, which GreenRoc expected to finalise with only limited additional work in 2026.
Chief executive Stefan Bernstein welcomed the progress.
"I'm happy to announce the summer's work programme at Amitsoq, which will provide us with both a lot of important data and a lot of graphite ore from Amitsoq," he said.
"It is important to secure a substantial amount of ore from Amitsoq, as it will take time to process that into graphite concentrate and we want to have the material ready by the time we are ready with our planned pilot processing plant."
Commenting on the consultation process, Bernstein added: "We are eager to start writing up the white paper and progress towards the final submission of the white book and revised project description, and we remain hopeful the exploitation licence can be granted before the end of this year."
At 1127 BST, shares in GreenRoc Strategic Minerals were up 0.01% at 2.3p.
