Arkle awarded new Botswana prospecting licence

(Sharecast News) - Arkle Resources announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded a new prospecting licence in northeastern Botswana, expanding its footprint in the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans as it targeted lithium and magnesium brine deposits.
The AIM-traded explorer said the new licence, PL 0238/2025, covers 775 square kilometres and lies adjacent to its two existing licences, which span 837 square kilometres.

It said it was focused on exploring for lithium in brines, a resource increasingly favoured over hard rock due to its scalability and improving extraction technology.

Previous sampling by Arkle across its holdings confirmed the presence of lithium in all brine samples, alongside notable magnesium grades.

"Lithium is designated as a 'critical metal' meaning there is an imbalance between expected future supply and demand," said chairman John Teeling.

"Explorers are turning from discovering and developing hard rock lithium to lithium brines mainly in salt pans."

Teeling added that new extraction technologies were enhancing recovery from brines and also allowed for the recovery of magnesium, which is present in encouraging quantities in Arkle's samples.

"We have a plan to drill our two existing licences which will be revised following the award of this new licence," he said.

The company had not yet provided a timeline for drilling, but said it would adjust its exploration programme to incorporate the new acreage.

At 1221 BST, shares in Arkle Resources were up 24.22% at 0.28p.
