(Sharecast News) - British Gas owner, Centrica, is looking at possible investments in miniature nuclear power plants in the UK in a bid to tap into huge demand for the technology. Hence, it has initiated talks with Government which could see it take part in developing small modular reactors. A wave of investment in new defence capabilities is transforming the fortunes of Barrow. Whereas not too long ago one might have reasonably expected the town's shipyard to soon be wound down, the opposite is occurring. BAE Systems is increasing its workforce there from 11,000 to 17,000 - marking a return to its historic peak. Argentinian president Javier Milei has performed a remarkable political U-turn when it comes to China. During his campaign he blasted what he termed "decadent communists" but on Monday he rewrote visa rules so Chinese can visit and work in Argentina more easily. A week before that he unlocked a China-backed hydroelectric project in the south of Argentina and in April he renewed a £3.6bn currency swap arrangement with Beijing. Nurses will reject their latest pay deal by a wide margin, meaning that they might soon join junior doctors on strike. The Royal College of Nursing will tell ministers that they must come back to the table over the summer if they want to avoid a formal strike ballot in the autumn. However, public support for doctors' strikes seems to be diminishing, with hospitals reporting that less staff is joining the picket lines. - The Sunday Times
