Helix upbeat on latest analysis of Rudyard Project

(Sharecast News) - Helix Exploration said on Thursday that new scientific analysis had confirmed both hydrogen-generation potential and a mantle helium signature at its Rudyard Project in Montana, marking what the company described as a breakthrough for its clean energy ambitions.
The AIM-traded firm said an independent study by Dr Michael Hofmann of AIM GeoAnalytics found that rock samples from Rudyard contained serpentine, olivine and magnetite - minerals known to generate hydrogen when reacting with water under heat and pressure.

It said the findings suggested the presence of mafic and ultramafic rocks capable of naturally producing geological hydrogen deep underground.

Complementary isotope analysis by Durham University showed a Helium-3 to Helium-4 ratio of 0.74 Ra, more than 3,600% above typical continental crust values, indicating a measurable mantle helium component within the reservoir system.

Modelling suggested around 9% of Rudyard's helium originates from the mantle, implying an ongoing connection with deep-Earth fluids that could both replenish helium and drive hydrogen formation.

Helix said the results established Rudyard as one of the few verified hydrogen-prone ultramafic systems in North America, with potential to produce "some of the world's cleanest hydrogen" with zero carbon emissions.

"These results confirm that Rudyard sits above a deep-Earth hydrogen engine powered by ultramafic rocks and mantle gases," said chief executive Bo Sears.

"The science is clear: this is the type of system that can generate clean hydrogen naturally, without carbon emissions or expensive reforming plants.

"If developed successfully, it could deliver hydrogen at a cost and purity level that could surpass anything achieved through conventional means.

"We see this as a milestone not only for Helix but for the entire clean-energy sector."

Helix said the findings positioned Rudyard as a potentially significant dual-source project for helium and hydrogen, aligned with the US Department of Energy's 'Hydrogen Shot' target of producing clean hydrogen for $1 per kilogram within the next decade.

At 1059 BST, shares in Helix Exploration were up 8.33% at 26p.
