Daimler Truck's Q3 profits drop as North America headwinds continue

(Sharecast News) - Headwinds in the North American market continued to hit financial results at Daimler Truck in the third quarter as the German truck and bus manufacturer reported an expected decline in revenues and profits.
Nevertheless, the company confirmed its full-year guidance, predicting unit sales of 410,000-440,000, generating revenues of €44bn-47bn and adjusted earnings before interest and tax of €3.6bn-4.1bn.

Daimler Truck, one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, sold 98,009 units during the three months to 30 September, a 15% decline on the 114,917 sold the year before.

This led to a drop in revenues in the Industrial Business to €10.6bn from €12.3bn, while adjusted group EBIT slumped to €716m from €1.18bn the year before.

The performance was affected by ongoing tough conditions in North American trucks market, where customers remain in a "cautious wait-and-see mode amid a very weak freight market and pending regulatory clarity", the company said.

Elsewhere, the Asian market delivered a solid performance, though conditions remained challenging in Japan and Indonesia, while the Daimler Buses and financial services arms continued to perform well.

"In today's uncertain global environment, we continue to focus on what we can control: improving operational and organisational efficiency, strict cost management, and fully committing to deliver strong value to our customers," said chief financial officer Eva Scherer in a statement.

By 1150 in Frankfurt, the stock was down 1.1% at €34.30.
