Week ahead: Vodafone, Rolls-Royce, UK GDP among the highlights

(Sharecast News) - Next week will see the release of the latest UK GDP figures, along with results from the likes of Vodafone, luxury brand Burberry, discount retailer B&M and a trading update from engine maker Rolls-Royce.
Vodafone's half-year results are due on Tuesday. Matt Britzman, senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said the company was heading into the results "with an optics problem".
"Core markets like the UK and Germany have been under pressure, and while turnaround efforts are underway, progress has been slow," he said. "The company has responded with bold moves, job cuts, the completed merger with Three UK, and divestments in Spain and Italy, but investors want evidence these changes are starting to pay off.
"Many welcome the strategic reset, but execution risk remains high. Next week's results need to show improving trends in broadband and mobile, particularly in those core European markets that dragged in the first quarter. With full-year guidance pointing to basically no growth in cash profit (EBITDA), investors will be hoping for something to get excited about."
As far as Rolls-Royce is concerned, HL's Aarin Chiekrie said the update will be closely watched for signs that positive momentum from the first half has been sustained through the third quarter.
"Market forecasts point to full-year underlying revenue growth of around 11% to £19.5 billion, while underlying operating profits are expected to grow at a faster pace of 32% to £3.3 billion," he noted.
On B&M, which is due to report on Thursday, Michael Hewson at MCH Markets, noted: "Not having a great time of it recently the shares slid to record lows last month on the back of a surprise profit warning.
"The surprise revision to their full-year profits guidance which saw a £7m downward revision to its previous forecast for H1, from £198m to £191m was not taken well, with the annual numbers down from £274m a year ago. The group's full year adjusted EBITDA is now projected to be between £470m and £520m, down from £510m to £560m. The error appears to have resulted from the omission of some freight costs.
"All of the other measures that were highlighted in its earlier October statement were left unchanged; however, its CFO Mike Schmidt has stepped down as a result."
3i Group's half-year results are due on Thursday. UBS said investors' main focus will be on the latest NAV per share, as well as total returns, return on shareholder funds and any commentary on the outlook for Private Equity and Infrastructure portfolio performance, in particular for Royal Sanders outside the core asset of Action.
"We expect the main focus for Action to be on its performance since 30-Sep-2025, valuation multiple, unrealised valuation gain and dividends," the bank said.
Dutch retailer Action is 3i's largest portfolio asset.
Other corporate highlights will include a post-close update from Chemring on Monday and interim results from SSE and Qinetiq on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
On the macroeconomic front, UK third-quarter GDP data will be released on Thursday.
