(Sharecast News) - Clean Power Hydrogen said on Monday that it had signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Abe Gruppe, a subsidiary of BKW Infra Services Europa, to explore the sale and integration of 175MW of electrolyser capacity over the next decade.
The AIM-traded company, which develops membrane-free electrolyser technology for the co-production of high-purity hydrogen and above medical-grade purity oxygen, said the proposed partnership would cover the supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrolysers across Abe and BKW's markets.
Abe is an integrated renewable energy and energy infrastructure service provider, covering engineering, project development, grid and energy systems implementation, operations management, servicing and independent certification.
Its parent company, BKW, is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange, has a market capitalisation of about £8bn, a 125-year history and 11,500 employees, and is one of Switzerland's largest energy supply companies.
Clean Power Hydrogen said the companies would use their combined capabilities to identify commercial opportunities for its patent-protected technology, including equipment deployment, installation and commissioning services, and long-term operations and maintenance.
The partnership would target a range of customers, including renewable energy producers seeking to monetise curtailed wind or solar capacity, as well as industries where hydrogen and oxygen could improve process efficiency, such as wastewater treatment and semiconductor fabrication.
The companies would also target life sciences, healthcare, mobility and data centres, including long-duration backup storage and dispatch applications.
"Together with Abe, BKW is a leading energy and infrastructure group with a significant footprint across Germany and Switzerland," said chief executive Jon Duffy.
"This agreement reinforces the scalability and market appetite for the brand-new category of electrolyser we have developed.
"Our membrane-free technology offers a lower lifetime cost for producing hydrogen and above medical grade oxygen.
"We are pleased to be partnering with Abe and BKW to demonstrate how our electrolysers can deliver benefits across their project portfolio, and we look forward to working with them and their end-user customers."
Clean Power Hydrogen said the agreement supported Germany's National Hydrogen Strategy, which targets the deployment of up to 10GW of domestic green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, backed by investment in electrolysers and hydrogen infrastructure.
"This exciting partnership builds upon CPH2's existing breakthrough 1MW membrane-free unit and expands over time with the forthcoming 5MW unit," commented Daniel Lorenzen, general manager of BKW Renewable Energies and managing director of Abe Gruppe.
"With this technology we can offer our customers a more reliable, higher purity, lower lifetime cost of hydrogen and oxygen production for the growing decentralised energy market."
At 1300 BST, shares in Clean Power Hydrogen were up 5.5% at 10.55p.
