Invinity sells vanadium battery system to Pacific Steel

(Sharecast News) - Invinity Energy Systems announced on Monday that it has agreed to the sale of a 32 MWh vanadium flow battery system to Pacific Steel Group for installation at its Mojave Micro Mill project in Kern County, California.
The AIM-traded energy storage manufacturer said the battery would be supported by grant funding from the California Energy Commission's long-duration energy storage programme and was expected to be the largest vanadium flow battery system in North America to date once delivered.

The system will be co-located with a 40 MWp solar array and used to supply low-carbon power to a mill expected to recycle 500,000 tons of scrap metal a year into steel rebar for the US construction industry.

Invinity said battery delivery was expected to start in the first quarter of 2027, when associated revenue would be recognised, while the mill is due to begin operating in the second half of 2027.

President Matt Harper said the project would show that Invinity's products were "second to none" in supporting cleaner steel production and would help accelerate plans to expand the company's US manufacturing operations.

At 1555 BST, shares in Invinity Energy Systems were up 12.9% at 35p.
