(Sharecast News) - European shares rallied and neared fresh highs at the open on Tuesday after a record close for the Dow Jones on Wall Street overnight.
The pan regional Stoxx 600 index was up 0.65% to 640 at 0827 BST, not far from its record 642 level

Major US indices traded higher overnight, with the Dow Jones closing above 52,000 for the first time as technology shares rebounded after a difficult week, while investors monitored a pause in hostilities between the US and Iran that left questions over the durability of the agreement and the outlook for Middle East oil supplies.

At the close, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.59% at 52,182.74, while the S&P 500 advanced 1.18% to 7,440.43 and the Nasdaq Composite saw out the session 2.07% firmer at 25,820.14.

The Dow closed 306.63 points higher on Monday after Washington and Tehran agreed on Sunday to halt attacks and allow commercial vessels to move freely through the Strait of Hormuz, following a weekend of military exchanges that threatened to derail efforts to end their conflict.

US President Donald Trump claimed Washington and Iran were set to hold fresh talks on Tuesday in Qatar, although there was no immediate response from Tehran.
