NatWest posts 20% profit jump, accelerates buyback plans

(Sharecast News) - NatWest on Friday reported strong half-year earnings driven by a jump in net interest income.
Profit for the half-year to June 30 rose 19% to £3.1bn with net interest income up 12% to £6.9bn. The bank said it was expecting a return on tangible equity of more than 19% for the full year and would consider share-buybacks from full year 2026, six months earlier than previously planned.

Operating profit before tax rose 20% to $4.3bn with total income up 11% to £8.9bn. Net interest margin widened by 20 basis points to 2.48%, reaching 2.49% in the second quarter.

NatWest's return on tangible equity climbed to 19.7%, from 18.2% at the end of March.
