CMA opens early consultation on FirstCash's offer for Ramsdens

(Sharecast News) - The Competition and Markets Authority has invited views on the proposed takeover of Ramsdens Holdings by US pawnbroking giant FirstCash, as it begins early information‑gathering ahead of a potential probe into the deal.
The regulator said interested parties have until 4 September to submit initial comments on how the transaction might affect competition in the UK.

The CMA stressed it has not yet opened a formal investigation, with the invitation to comment forming the first stage of its assessment.

The move comes after Ramsdens agreed in late June to a £206m takeover by FirstCash at 609p a share - comprising 600p in cash plus up to 9.0p in permitted dividends.

Following shareholder feedback, FirstCash returned in July with an improved offer, lifting the cash element to 675p a share. Including dividends, the revised bid values the pawnbroker, jewellery retailer and foreign‑exchange operator at up to £232m, or as much as 684p per share.

The CMA said written representations on any competition issues should be submitted by the deadline.

As of 1000 BST, Ramsdens shares were down 0.34% at 663.75p.
