US pre-open: Futures retreat as higher yields, geopolitical risks weigh

(Sharecast News) - Wall Street futures were in the red ahead of the bell on Monday as markets remained under pressure from elevated global bond yields after a losing week.
As of 1230 BST, Dow Jones futures were down 0.05%, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 futures had the indices opening 0.19% and 0.61% weaker, respectively.

The Dow closed 517.80 points lower on Friday after the 30‑year US Treasury yield pushed above 5.3%, hitting its highest level in nearly two decades, while long‑dated rates in Japan, France and Germany also climbed to multiyear highs.

Futures traded lower even as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outlined measures aimed at stabilising the long end of the US yield curve.

Also weighing on sentiment were ongoing concerns that the US‑Iran conflict could drag on, keeping oil prices elevated and complicating the inflation outlook.

On the macro front, the Chicago Federal Reserve's July national activity index will be published at 1330 BST.

No major earnings were slated for released on Monday.
