(Sharecast News) - German economic growth slowed less than expected in the second quarter of 2026, according to revised estimates from the country's federal statistical office on Tuesday.
Gross domestic product rose at a 0.3% clip on a price, seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis in the April-June period, Destatis reported, down from 0.4% growth in the first quarter but the third straight quarterly expansion.
That was an increase from the 0.2% expansion initially reported last month. Notably, turnover in wholesale and retail trade performed much better than expected, while export figures were upwardly revised.
"The German economy is maintaining the growth momentum seen at the start of the year," said Ruth Brand, president of Destatis.
"As in the first quarter, growth was primarily driven by the positive development of exports."
The latest figures mean German GDP was 1.0% higher than it was in the second quarter of 2025, up from the 0.8% year-on-year increase registered in the first quarter, marking the strongest rate of annual growth since the third quarter of 2022.
